Web Application Security Testing for a USA FinTech Platform
A US fintech company was about to sign a large customer, and the customer asked for a security report. The in-house team had never had an outside test and didn’t know what they would find. After comparing several firms, they chose Fulminous Software, a security testing services company with real fintech experience.
They hired 3 engineers from our team. We ran web application security testing and API security testing, then followed with manual penetration testing. We found a broken access control flaw that let one user read another’s statements, plus a weak password reset flow. Their developers fixed both in a week, and we retested.
The customer received a clean report and signed. The company now books a test before every major release.
Results:
- Serious access flaw fixed before any customer saw it
- Customer security review passed
- Regular testing built into the release plan
Mobile Application Security Testing for a UK Healthcare App
A UK healthcare booking app stored patient details on the phone and wasn’t sure how well they were protected. The team asked us to check before a wider rollout.
A team of 2 engineers ran mobile application security testing on Android and iOS, and reviewed the backend services. We found data saved without encryption and an API that returned more patient detail than the app needed. We shared proof and a short fix list. Their team encrypted the stored data and trimmed the API responses.
The rollout went ahead, and the platform kept us on for every new release.
Results:
- Sensitive data now encrypted on the device
- API responses limited to what the app needs
- Security checks added to each release
Cloud Security Assessment and Phishing Test for a Logistics Company
A logistics company had moved most of its systems to the cloud in a hurry. Nobody had checked the settings since. They also worried about staff clicking on fake delivery emails.
A team of 3 engineers reviewed their cloud accounts and found a storage bucket open to the public and several accounts with far more access than needed. We also ran a phishing simulation with their approval. About a fifth of staff clicked, and their mail filters caught only some of the messages. We shared a fix list and ran short awareness sessions.
The company closed the bucket within a day, tightened access and re-ran the phishing test three months later with better results.
Results:
- Public storage exposure closed
- Access permissions cut down to what each role needs
- Fewer staff clicks on the follow-up phishing test
